The website of Malaysia’s stock market was the target of a cyber attack, making it inaccessible to users due to excess traffic from multiple sources, the exchange said in a statement today.
Bursa Malaysia said many of its users were not able to access the website late yesterday due to the congestion.
“Contingency measures were activated to provide continued access to the website,” it said, according to dpa .
It added that some of its international users may still not be able to access the site today, but users within the country were not expected to experience any disruption.
Bursa Malaysia said its other systems were not affected by the attack and trading in its securities, derivatives and Islamic markets continued normally.
Later today, Bernama reported that access to Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd’s website has been restored after it was temporarily disrupted yesterday.
In a statement today, Bursa Malaysia said the access to the fully-integrated exchange’s website was disrupted by a distributed denial of service attack.
“The exchange places high priority on the security of its systems and will continue to ensure the integrity of its operations and services,” it said.
