A Valentine's Day gathering was held at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur last night. But instead of a candle-lit dinner, attendees were treated to several rounds of PAS-bashing speeches.

"Although PAS says it is targeting Muslims only, the party's religious extremist views will certainly affect non-Muslims, including today's Valentine's day," said Kok Eng.

In defending the party's hardline stance against celebrating Valentine's Day, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang also said unmarried Muslim males and females should not be encouraged to interact freely. It's ally DAP opposes this view.

NONE The final speaker for the night, MCA Selangor Youth chief Kow Chong Wei ( left ), went even further, calling DAP "a murderer's accomplice" for helping PAS during the 2008 general election.

"Lim Guan Eng, it's about time. Cut ties with PAS. Although we won't give you our votes, we will thank you a little from our hearts.

"Return peace to us Chinese," Kow told the applauding crowd of about 30, both young and old.

The event, themed ‘We are one', was supposed to begin at 7pm, but was delayed by heavy traffic around the city.

Each attendee was given a plastic rose, a ‘we are one' T-shirt, a candle, and some leaflets.

One of the leaflets, printed in full-colour on A2-sized paper, touched on PAS' alleged policies to "Islamise the Chinese" in PAS-led states, such as gender segregation at a New Year's countdown in Sungai Petani, Kedah, and a ban on the sale of lottery tickets in Kelantan.

The hour-long event ended with the attendees gathering behind a trilingual banner saying, "We want Valentine's Day", and shouting the "1Malaysia" slogan.
