The Malay right-wing group Perkasa has expressed concern over the issue of 3.7 million people who have yet to register as voters, and suggested that the Election Commission (EC) open permanent voter registration counters at all universities.

Its president Ibrahim Ali also suggested that the EC establish mobile registration counters which can call at factories.

"The EC has to ensure that at least 90 per cent of these people register as voters before the next general election," he told reporters after chairing a meeting of Malacca Perkasa last night.

Ibrahim said he has directed Perkasa leaders and members in peninsular Malaysia to help young people register as voters.

He also called on the people, especially youngsters, not to give their support to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, saying they were influenced by the new media.
