Malaysiakini cartoonist Zunar's bold criticisms of the ruling regime through his work has won him accolades at an exhibition in London.
Foremost in praising Zunar at the launch of his exhibition at the Free Word Centre was the founder of whistleblower website Sarawak Report and guest speaker Clare Rewcastle, said a statement from Zunar's office.
"I love Zunar's targets of PM's wife Rosmah and Sarawak CM Taib Mahmud. I commend Zunar for his courage, and for being brave and a wonderful champion. It takes brave people to bring changes to weak regimes," she said.
Meanwhile, addressing about 100 visitors, including Malaysian students and professionals, Zunar said that Malaysia was facing a "moral crisis beset for corruption" and that it is "morally wrong" to keep quiet about it.
"My detention under the Sedition Act shows that drawing cartoons in Malaysia is a crime. When drawing cartoons becomes a crime, the downfall of a regime is only a matter of time," he said.
The 80-piece exhibition of cartoons featuring Prime Minister Najib Razak, Rosmah, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and other general issues is open to the public for free viewing at the Free Word Centre from Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm, until March 13.
Zunar had previously participated in two other exhibitions together with other artists in Bilbao, Spain.
