Hasan plays with fire as gov't stands idly by
YOURSAY 'Any responsible government would have taken prompt action to stop the nonsense spewed by Hasan and the likes of him.'
Bishop to Hasan: Stop joking, seriously
Changeagent:
If Hasan Ali is not joking about his proselytisation allegations, then the Christians should at least be commended for their cutting-edge creativity and immense ability to think outside the box.
I mean, who would have imagined that playing fancy dress in mosques and giving away holy water for consumption could be such effective strategies?
Of course, let's not take anything away from the immense impact of the free solar-powered talking bibles too. After all, we're all only humans and who wouldn't want one for themselves?
Not Convinced: Christians masquerading as Muslims in mosques? The last time I check, it was a couple of Muslim journalists who masqueraded as Christians to get into a church in the bid to expose a non-existence case of proselytisation.
ACR: Hasan Ali, for reasons only God knows, refuses to divulge who the converts are and where and by whom they got converted.
His continuing accusations against the Christian community is an offence under the Sedition Act and Penal Code if the intention is to create ill-will amongst people of different backgrounds and religions.
I am surprised he is allowed this amount of latitude to rant his obvious nonsense, especially in light of the recent Court of Appeal decision in MP Karpal Singh's case that freedom of speech is not absolute.
Pemerhati: Previously the Umno thieves have been winning elections by using the media monopoly to influence the electorate, by gerrymandering and by cheating during the polls such as by using phantom and postal votes.
Now they have added more dirty tricks to their arsenal because they are worried that they might lose the next elections. They have gone after Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim with their trumped-up sodomy charges and have used a prominent pedophile to come up with some pornographic tapes to discredit him.
By using billions of ringgit of stolen money at its disposal, Umno also seems to have bought over some elected representatives from Pakatan Rakyat (e.g. Ibrahim Ali and Hasan Ali) to bad mouth Pakatan and create racial and religious polarisation as it might influence the majority Malay-Muslims into voting for Umno.
People like Ibrahim and Hasan probably get paid according to the amount of lies and tension they create, so expect them to work hard to create even more incredible lies.
Malaysian Born: Hasan is trying to keep his name in the media by whatever means he can to stay relevant. This has nothing whatsoever to do with religion, he is using religious sensitivity to garner support by appealing to the most base forms of instigation.
Bishop Paul Tan is absolutely right and frankly this nonsense of trying to give Hasan the benefit of doubt despite the fact that to-date he has offered no proof but just innuendo, is getting tiresome.
The claims are ludicrous and lack the simplest logic. Today everyone has access to information, so you can't talk nonsense. Someone is lying through his teeth and this fool has been literally repeating it or much worse.
Actual consumption of holy water is part of Hindu rites not Christian tradition, when they concoct stories they don't even have the brains to get it right. Despite apparent education he is actually quite an ignorant individual, desperately trying to spread his diseased bile.
Anonymous: Despite Bishop Tan's countless rebuttal and denial against repeated lies and insinuations from individuals like Hasan or Ibrahim Ali or groups like Perkasa and Perkida, the powers-that-be just remain silent and condone their shameless actions. This is a clear-cut bullying of the minorities and trying to please the majority.
Onyourtoes: Who do we blame for allowing racism, bigotry and hatred to continue to fester? From whom they gathered their protection and tacit approval to say whatever they want, to provoke to the extreme and to make the most bizarre and baseless accusation against other faiths.
Try doing the reverse and see what will happen. The mentality of this government is akin to third world tribalism - they provoke, abuse and bully, knowing there is not a damn thing the minority can do about it.
The next minute they will be talking about moderation, inclusiveness, and ‘1' this and ‘1' that. Washington Post has described Malaysia as the champion of double talk and I can't agree more.
This government surely knows how to cling on to power by whatever means, including the most brazen and the most depraved means.
Kairos: Unless and until the government reins in Hasan Ali, he will continue to cause irreparable damage to the relationship between the Christians in this country.
His wild unsubstantiated allegations are getting wilder and more ridiculous each time he opens his big mouth to speak. But what amazes me is the total silence of the powers-that-be so much so that one wonders whether they are giving their tacit support behind this renegade.
Maybe, the feelings of the Christians and hence, by implication, their votes, are not that important to the BN after all. Christians, better take note.
Disbeliever: Either Hasan Ali is a nut case or he is an advocate of the ruling government. Thus the ruling BN government will not take any action against him since he is doing the work of the government by instilling fear into those Muslims who choose to believe him.
Any responsible government would have taken prompt action to stop the nonsense spewed out by Hasan and the likes of him including the Perkasa chief - the one and only Ibrahim Ali.
My dear fellow Muslims, please do not be taken in by all this gibberish. As the bishop says, Christians will not resort to such tactics in their mission to evangelise.
The real truth is that if you are strong in your faith, you will stand steadfast, yet at the same time respect the beliefs of others.
Fair Play: No doubt Hasan Ali is the one of the few 'towering' leaders who is capable of 'leading' his community forward. With his twin brother Ibrahim Ali in tow, nothing is insurmountable.
