A Seberang Perai municipal councillor has ticked off MCA Selayang coordinator Jessie Ooi for "slandering and inciting" the local council during her question at the Chua Soi Lek-Lim Guan Eng debate in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Ooi ( right ) during the debate said that the Penang local council had increased the rate of quit rent since Pakatan Rakyat took over Penang in 2008.

The online community has since given Ooi an earful for her remarks during the televised debate.

MPSP councillor Steven Sim rebutted saying Ooi’s first statement was totally incorrect as the local council had not increased the tax post March 2008.

"This seems to be slander, that has become the culture of the Barisan Nasional," said Sim.

Sim said he was "utterly disappointed" with Ooi's second statement, that ridiculed the council and its workers who are simply acting on a mandate to act on illegal parking.

He said Ooi has failed to acknowledge the MPSP workers’ work ethics under the Pakatan Rakyat leadership.

"These workers work very hard to ensure the comfort and safety of the people," said Sim.

"This shows that MCA and its leadership does not respect laws, and legalises law breaking when it happens at night," he stressed.

Ooi, during the questions session at the debate, heatedly demanded that the Penang council refrain from taking action against cars parked illegally after 10.30pm.

Sim said Ooi, as a MCA leaders and a BN coordinator in Selayang appointed by the federal government had shown her ignorance of the work of the council.

He demanded Ooi apologise to all the council workers in Penang over her "insensitive" statements.
