Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita), established over a year ago, now faces the possibility of having its registration annulled by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

Kita secretary Masrum Dayat said the party received a show-cause letter from ROS dated Feb 9 demanding an explanation on why the party’s registration should not be cancelled.

“The letter, signed by the deputy registrar, asked that we clarify matters pertaining to the party’s administration... there are five items to be answered by March 9. We are preparing the necessary answers,” he said when contacted by Bernama .

He did not explain about the aspects of administration, but party sources revealed among the issues raised by the ROS was violation of the party constitution in appointing several members to selected posts not made through the central executive committee (CEC).

Besides that, the party was asked to clarify on the violation of item 12.3.4 of the Undang-undang Berdaftar Persatuan as the CEC’s meeting minutes, dated June 29, were not provided by the party secretary.

Masrum said he had met with an ROS officer as part of the investigation process carried out after the registrar received complaints against the party.

“We have already explained. Most of the issues raised were on party administration. They did not say who complained but only said they received a complaint.

“After all the statements were given, I felt shocked to receive a show-cause letter from ROS last week. However, we will respond before March 9,” he said.

Meanwhile, Masrum also said the CEC had dismissed a proposal by Kita president Zaid Ibrahim on Feb 18 to dissolve the party.

Instead, the CEC decided that Zaid should head the party.

“Therefore, the annual delegates meeting on Feb 25 will be postponed until April. That is only if Kita’s registration is not cancelled,” he added.
