Police busted a fake medical certificate (MC) selling syndicate with the arrest of a photo shop owner in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Johor Baru last Friday.

Johor police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the 35-year-old suspect was arrested around 1.30pm following a tip-off from sources and following further checks at the premises, police found various fake MCs.

“We also found several materials believed to have been used to make the MCs including computers, printers, A4 papers and 13 doctors’ stamps,” he told reporters in Johor Baru today, adding that the syndicate had been operating since last year and sold the MC for RM25 each, including to locals who worked in Singapore.

Mohd Mokhtar said the suspect only provided the MC and doctors’ stamps while the patients would fill in their information and date of leave after they bought it.

He added that upon inspection, six of the 13 stamps were using the names of medical officers who were still working in government hospitals in the town while seven of the names had already moved to other hospitals.

“We will investigate this case under Section 468 and Section 471 of the Penal Code," said Mohd Mokhtar.

Regarding another case, he said police received a report from the secretary of the Johor FC Club regarding a football match that had allegedly been fixed during a game against Perlis in the President’s Cup in Pasir Gudang Stadium, last Thursday.

“We leave this case to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further action and at the same time, we will identify suspects,” he said.

Meanwhile, Johor MACC director Simi Abdul Ghani, when contacted, confirmed they were investigating the case but declined to give further comment.
