The Human Resources Ministry is in the final stage of completing all processes before announcing the minimum wage for private sector workers in the country.

Its minister, Dr S Subramaniam said this effort would benefit 30 percent of the local workers at the moment who received a salary of less than RM900 and the government had ensured that the fixed rate would not burden the employers.

“We have considered everything and this rate will give benefits to our country including boosting the economy whereby more job opportunities will be offered to the locals while at the same time, it will reduce the number of foreign workers,” he said.

Speaking after a foundation-stone laying ceremony for a new building for SJK (T) Labu in Seremban, Dr Subramaniam hoped that the minimum wage would be announced by the

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak next month.

Earlier, he said the new two-storey building contained 12 classrooms and this project was under a special allocation worth RM1.9 million from the Finance Ministry.

“This project started today and hopefully it will be completed before the middle of next year,” he said.
