RCI approved, but its terms are being worked out

Just take a leaf of Australian PM's leadership: immediately after Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd announced (in Washington, not Australia, mind you) that he was stepping down, PM Julia Gillard announced that a ballot would be taken on Monday on who should be leader.

He did not wait; and she did not wait either. Can our ‘1Malaysia' PM do the same?

Even the electoral reform PSC (parliamentary select committee) took months to decide; and the PSC would be going overseas to ‘study' the electoral system in Europe. Why waste taxpayers' money?

Jimmy Ng: It is plain and simple. If this Project M issue is not resolved soon (before the next general election), then BN must be prepared to lose Sabah. No more excuses.

Upko secretary-general Wilfred Madius Tangau, and for that matter all KDM political leaders in BN, should demand that Najib state his personal stand on the formation of the RCI on the illegal immigrants scandal in Sabah.

Don't just talk, talk and talk until the cows come home. The genuine rakyat of Sabah cannot be fooled any more.

Come the 13th GE, we know who and which party to vote for. KDM leaders in BN cannot take their supporters for granted. You can continue to please Umno and your political masters, but you are losing the support of your own people.

Chuath: For goodness sake, can't they get some competent people to do the job? By the time the government gets anything done, the population would have gone up significantly again.

Wira: Wilfred Madius Tangau, since the formation of the RCI has been denied and deferred for so many umpteen times, the announcement date of the RCI is very important.

Otherwise, how do we know you are not lying? How do you know if the item has been discussed and minuted according to what you have told Malaysiakini since you are not a cabinet minister and do not have access to cabinet meeting minutes.

Would you resign from Upko if there is no announcement in, say, three weeks?

NGO: Liow's radioactive waste proposal not viable

Wira: I think the public servants knew but were probably gagged from saying so. "Returning it back to Australia" is just to placate some ignorant folks who live in Kuantan, knowing full well that these poisons would never be accepted by the Australians.

If Lynas were allowed to move into production mode, it is very obvious that all contaminants and by-products must be treated in this country or left to pollute and harm the environment as in that idiotic proposal to store them on some remote island.

This BN government is so arrogant that it refuses to learn the lessons from its previous mistakes in Bukit Merah .

Sabahan: It appears to me our health minister is ignorant of laws pertaining to movement of hazardous material. I'm just wondering what else he is ignorant of.

Maplesyrup: These ministers are not ignorant, but I would go one step further to suggest that they are paying lip service to the issue of radioactive waste.

Surely as ministers, they know that the Australian government had already declared that these toxic wastes cannot be repatriated back to Australia.

They are not complete idiots though for they have carefully chosen the word 'suggest'. This will absolve them of all responsibility for clearly, it is up to Lynas to decide what to do.

Please BN leaders, stop treating us like fools.

Puchong Mali: "Move the radioactive waste outside of Kuantan, preferably return it back to Australia," said Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai, who is also the chairperson of the national monitoring committee on the rare earth issue formed by MCA and Chinese NGOs.

The preferred solution is to move it back to Australia but obviously this is not a viable option.

So where "outside of Kuantan" will it be? Liow, please don't muddle your words, say it clear and and say it loud, where "outside of Kuantan" is it going to be?
