Kuantan City Council (MPK) has denied that it has approved a rugby match at the same site where the green light for the anti-Lynas Himpunan Hijau rally to be held tomorrow has been given.

When contacted, MPK public relations officer Haslinda Hassan acknowledged that the rugby match was being held at the site today but stressed the final match will be held at another location.

" NONE The final rugby match ... we've arranged it at another location. It will be at MPK2 field," she said.

She added that the tournament began yesterday but insisted that the Himpunan Hijau rally will be able to proceed unimpeded tomorrow.

Earlier when contacted, Himpunan Hijau steering committee chairperson Wong Tack confirmed that a rugby game was ongoing at the planned rally site and was observing the developments.

He warned that the participating protesters will flood the streets tomorrow if the MPK4 field is still occupied.

"(If our gathering site is occupied), I can guarantee you, the whole Kuantan will be our war zone," said Wong when contacted.

He adds that any sabotage efforts would mean the rally would not only be from 9am to 12pm but be "from sunrise to sunset".

Original site fenced up

Wong said he contacted the local council authorities yesterday to prep the field for the rally, including providing sufficient garbage bins.

NONE The committee had initially applied to used the MPK1 field but the venue had abruptly been fenced up days before the scheduled event.

MPK however had explained that the move was meant for upgrading works in anticipation of the Sukma games in July.

The committee finally agreed to relocate tomorrow's rally to MPK4 field after negotiating with the police yesterday, who approved it with conditions.

The rally is being held to protest the Lynas rare earth plant in Gebeng, near to Kuantan, that continues to approach commencement despite months of public outcry.
