The investigation by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) into the alleged attempts to proselytise Muslims in the state is still on, said Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said Mais and Jais would be called soon to inform him on developments of their investigation into the issue.

“We will study each item of information received in our effort to convince Muslims and non-Muslims in the state that the investigation is carried out fairly and openly,” he told a news conference after opening the Selangor Baitulmal Convention 2012 in Shah Alam today.

Asked whether he would be receiving information including video clips of activities to proselytise Muslims which former state executive councillor Dr Hasan Ali was said to possess, Khalid said the whole investigation into the issue had been left to Mais and Jais.

The Selangor government had on Feb 22, asked Mais and Jais to investigate  alleged activities to proselytise Muslims in the state following such claims by Hasan and a number of non-governmental organisations.

Hasan claimed there were efforts to proselytise Muslims based on the discovery of solar-powered Bibles, Christian missionaries wearing robes and entering mosques, and baptism of Muslims.

Khalid said Hasan’s allegations which were not backed by strong proof had caused uneasiness among the state’s plural community.
