The civil suit filed by a political cartoonist against police and the government over his “unlawful detention” has been postponed to next month.

    

NONE “Because of unavoidable circumstances, the trial has been postponed to April 5 and 6,” said lawyer N Surendran, who is representing cartoonist Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque, more popularly known as Zunar ( left in photo ).

Surendran revealed this after lawyers representing all the parties were summoned to the judge’s chambers today.

Another counsel acting for the artist, Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, explained that judge Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera had an urgent meeting at 4pm, which clashed with the hearing of the case.

The court will reconvene at 10.30am on April 5, when police witnesses will be called, beginning with the arresting officer who will be examined by Zunar’s lawyers.

Zunar, who has returned home following his trip to London recently, declined to comment as there were no new developments in the case.
