The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has sought promotion or pay rise for civil servants who have passed the Competency Level Assessment (PTK) examination.

Its president, Hashim Adnan said the Public Service Department (PSD) should reward the civil servants involved, including about 10,000 teachers, and failure to do so would be injustice to them.

“Many veteran teachers, who passed level three or four of the examination, deserve a pay rise or a promotion,” he told Bernama today.

Hence, Hashim said the PSD should reconsider the appeal and give a grace period of one or two years before abolishing the PTK.

The PSD has decided to replace the PTK with the Integrated Competency Development Programme (Prospect), which is said to provide better promotion prospects, effective July.

Hashim said the abolition of the PTK with immediate effect would be unfair  to those who hold positions at higher levels, degree holders and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia holders, if passing the examination was not taken into consideration.
