Yesterday the police arrested a division youth chief of a political party in Perak for allegedly blackmailing a woman for sex with her explicit video.

According to a report in today’s Berita Harian , the suspect, who is also an exco member of the national political party, was arrested in Serdang, Selangor on Wednesday, and will be remanded for three days to assist in investigations.

Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah told the Malay daily yesterday that police’s preliminary investigation found that the suspect had threatened the woman should his demand for money and sex not be met by her.

“According to the victim’s report, the suspect had threatened to make the victim’s sex video public if the victim refused to give what he wants,” Tun Hisan was quoted as saying.

The victim could not stand the threats made since few months ago and lodged a report on Wednesday, he added.

However, English daily New Straits Times published a different version of the arrest.

Quoting sources, the report claimed that the suspect is a former youth leader and the victim is his sister-in-law.

The suspect, 36, was arrested at about 5pm on Wednesday in Bukit Puchong, Serdang, said the report.

“Sources said the suspect is a businessman based in a northern state,” read the report.

Serdang OCPD Abdul Razak Elias confirmed to the daily that a suspect had been picked up and remanded until March 3.

Chinese daily Sin Chew Daily , also quoting sources, revealed that the suspect is a former MIC Youth leader.

The daily said the 29-year-old victim, who is going to marry her fiance this June, wanted to stop the affair with the suspect last December, but the suspect kept harassing her.

Sources told the daily that the victim, a bank employee, lodged a report to the police on Wednesday after receiving a mobile message containing her nude photograph from the suspect.

It was to protect the relationship with her fiance, as well as not to affect the marriage of her sister, claimed the daily.

The suspect, who quit his MIC Youth post last May due to a misunderstanding with party members, is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code.
