A year-old Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) building in Alai, Malacca has been found to suffer from leaks, fungus and structural defects.

According to Works Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor, parts of the RM23.4 million building completed March last year has “infestation of fungus” while other parts have water seeping into the building.

The New Straits Times reported that the minister blames rain and high tide for the seepage, as the building is located on the coastline of Telok Mas.

“I have instructed the Public Works Department and a consultant to identify the cause of the fungus infestation and the issue with the water table by carrying out a detailed investigation...,” he said after a two-hour inspection.

The minister, however, assured that the building is still safe for occupancy for the 54 MACC employees despite the fungus and structural defects.
