Golden years: The Felda that was

VOXPOP 'Felda's funds built up during the time of RM Alias has all been squandered over the past five to six years.'

A non-Malay Felda settler's success story

vox populi small thumbnail Maplesyrup: With hard work, R Thangam and his family got themselves out of the web of poverty.

It is hard work, not the New Economic Policy (NEP) or handouts. Only if all Malaysians regardless of race and culture understand this. I dare say that those who oppose the two-party system do so out of fear that the gravy train will derail.

Sad to say that these people do not realise that they need to learn to fish so as not to go hungry anymore. Depending on handouts from BN will only fill their stomach for a while, but they will have to keep begging for more.

Democrat 53 : Mr Thangam, well done to both your father and yourself. The Mahathir racism reared its ugly head after a few years into my first job in a Felda company. I endured it for nine years and left quite bitter in 1990.

This was the Dr Mahathir Mohamad era when he was trying to prove that he is more Malay than Indian - or rather a ‘constitutional Malay' - many of them wreaking havoc with the help of Perkasa and Umno.

As for then Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Isa Samad, his appointment to head the agency was the worst decision ever, and would result in the total failure of Felda.

Felda's funds built up during the time of RM Alias has all been squandered over the past five to six years since PM Najib Razak and his cronies took control of the agency.

Today it needs an IPO (initial public offering) to save itself with injection of external funds. They are rushing though the listing as there will be disaster otherwise.

Even RM Alias could not control the racial profiling as Indians and Chinese in very senior positions were bypassed for promotions for top jobs in the Felda Corporation with a few exceptions, but up to the deputy level only.

Swipenter: It is true that starting from the 1980s the process of marginalising and alienating the non-Malays from public institutions and schemes began in earnest.

After more than three decades of brainwashing, the result is entrenched, institutionalised racism and religious bigotry.

Now the non-Malays are seen as ‘pendatangs' and not Malaysians by the Malay chauvinists. Yes, it coincided with Mahathir assuming the post of PM.

Today, national unity is a myth but racial and religious polarisation is a fact of life. It wasn't like this even in the 1970s.

There is still hope for the country if we stand united and vote Anything But Umno-BN (ABU) in GE13.

Dr Jeyakumar's solitary political journey

Voteforchange: Sungai Siput MP Michael Jeyakumar is a true-blue politician, champion of the poor, and of those who have no one to go to.

And he has no hidden agenda for himself. He lives a simple life: he stays in the same old single-story terrace house that is more than 40 years old, used to drive an old Volkswagen and openly declares his assets.

How many so-called politicians are in this mould today? We need more people like him in Malaysia. Unfortunately, there are hardly any.

May God bless him and give him good health to carry on the good work for the people of all races.

Lets be fair : Altruism marks the true character of one who works selflessly for the betterment for another or the community - Jeyakumar is an outstanding one in this manner.

Docs: Kudos to Jeyakumar for freeing the constituency from the tyrant S Samy Vellu and his band of lying/thieving MIC henchmen.

Kudos to Umno for detaining Jeyakumar under the Emergency Ordinance (EO) and then freeing him. This has cemented his popularity in Sungai Siput and elevated him to the status of ‘hero of the rakyat'.

Shanandoah: Dr Jeyakumar is a giant killer. Single-handedly, he dethroned the great S Samy Vellu of the MIC. The once invincible man has now been put to pasture. Sungai Siput residents are now seeing better days ahead.

Black Mamba: PSM's social activities put many political parties to shame, whether it's from BN or Pakatan Rakyat. Jeyakumar is a man of sincere actions helping the underprivileged irrespective of race and creed, without fame on his mind.

History has always shown that all it takes is one good man to shine and the world will light up. The rest of those doctors in current politics are a sham when compared to Jeyakumar.

RR : All the wonderful words expressed by the readers are indeed a great prayer for Jeyakumar.

However in this country, it is very difficult to spread his socialist ideology as politicians of other parties will use religion and God to distort socialism and confuse the people.

Jati promises murtad video in fortnight

Flom lollllllll : If it is an anonymous video, I say even a kid can produce it. Is Jati chief Hasan Ali suggesting that Christians may kill or harm these persons if their identities are revealed? If so, where did he get such ideas from?

Furthermore, why doesn't Hasan report the incidents and get the authorities to charge those Christians who had converted these few Muslims?

If not, it would become a precedent and encourage more Christians to try to convert Muslims, if Hasan is to be believed.

Hasan Ali may also be guilty of not reporting a ‘crime' if he knows about this illegal conversion but fails to report it.

CiViC: Hasan, just lodge a police report or whatever report you want, and give them your video. Let them investigate.

Indon Planter: Two weeks to reveal the video? Sure, you need time to recruit actors, scout for locations, write the script, arrange the pay package, do the shooting and finally the editing, and I concur that even two weeks is no easy task.
