More than 50km of Kelantan beachfront affected by erosion
A 53.5km stretch of the 75.5km beachfront in Kelantan has been identified to be hit by erosion, especially during the monsoon season, the Kelantan state assembly was told today.

State Housing, Public Works, Utility and Environment Committee chairperson Md Anizam Abdul Rahman said the areas categorised as critical were Pantai Cahaya Bulan, Kuala Pak Amat, Pantai Sabak and Pantai Irama in Bachok.
There is also erosion at Pantai Bisikan Bayu in Pasir Puteh and the problem, if not addressed, can reach a critical stages in about 10 years, he told the state assembly sitting in Kota Baru.
He said at Pantai Mek Mah in Kota Baru, the problem was not serious as area was not developed.
Meanwhile, state Health, Women and Family Development Committee chairperson Wan Ubaidah Omar, said 346 domestic abuse cases were reported in Kelantan since 2009.
“Three hundred and twenty-two cases involved abuse on women, and 24 were child abuse cases.
“Of the total, 173 cases were referred to the relevant authorities for further action,” she said in response to a question by Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman (PAS-Chetok).
