The premier’s blanket apology for BN's mistakes is not enough to cover all the errors that Najib Abdul Razak has made during his 35-month tenure to date, said the DAP’s Lim Kit Siang.

In a statement today, he said this includes the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock during a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission interrogation in July 2009.

NONE “It remains a mystery and state secret (as to) what mistakes Najib was apologising for....Najib's mistakes alone runs into scores,” said the Ipoh Timor MP.

“(They include)...failure to take action against (Teoh's) killers, as well as to bring to book persons responsible for the death of Ahmad Sarbaini Mohamad at the MACC premises, (the death of) A Kugan in police custody and all other cases of custodial deaths.”

More recently, he said, Najib's government oversaw a RM840 million “bailout” of former Malaysia Airlines chairperson Tajudin Ramli through his out-of-court settlement with Danaharta and government-linked companies.

This marks the return of “Mahathirsm”, noted Lim, with Malaysians “still paying for the financial scandals of (fourth premier) Dr Mahathir Mohamad's years as PM”.

Lim pointed out that it was on Najib’s watch that Malaysia dropped to its “worst-ever ranking of   No 60 and lowest score of 4.3” in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index.

“This places Malaysia at the most corrupt level in the nation's 55-year history under six prime ministers,” he said.

'Where to start?'

Alongside this are the “continued politics of corruption, cryonyism and patronage” with the award of a RM2.2 billion highway project to two companies linked to Umno-connected individuals.

azlan Lim also told Najib to apologise for the “illegal, undemocratic and unconstitutional power grab” in Perak to favour BN two months before the latter became PM.

“There is a long list of mistakes made over the past 35 months for Najib to apologise for on his own behalf, without yet going into the past BN mistakes resulting in the BN debacle in the last general election in 2008.

“Where will Najib begin?” he posed.
