Police have recorded statements from the two drivers of the tour bus which overturned en route from Genting Highlands to Kuala Lumpur on March 5, killing two Indian nationals.    

Bentong police chief Supt Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the drivers, G Sugumaran, 26 and A Moothy, 45, gave their statements yesterday to facilitate investigations into the accident.     

“They have been discharged from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and are being treated at a private clinic and still under our observation,” he told Bernama when contacted in Kuala Lumpur today.

Two Indian nationals died while 22 passengers and the two drivers were injured when the bus skidded out of control down hill and overturned at Km 4.5 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway near Kuala Lumpur, on its way from Genting Highlands to the city.   

Meanwhile, Selayang Hospital deputy director Dr Mohd Suhaimi Abd Majid said nine of the accident victims were still warded at the hospital.

Four of them were in critical condition while the rest were stable, he added.  

“I don’t think they’ll be discharged anytime soon as they still require treatment. Two of them are on life support system in intensive care due to severe head injuries,” he told Bernama when contacted today.  

A hospital spokesperson confirmed that two Indian nationals have been discharged and were met by an officer from the Indian High Commissioner’s office on Monday.   

“They were Rajeev, 27, and Sharma Kamlesh 23. So far 11 more are still warded,” he added.
