Kelantan members of Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) will not support Zaid Ibrahim if the party president contests the next general election on the party's ticket, the state chief Zakaria Salleh said today.

He said Kelantan Kita does not recognise Zaid as the president of the party, adding that the Kelantan members no longer had confidence in him because he was inconsistent in his political struggle.

Zakaria was commenting on Zaid's announcement that he would contest in the Kota Bharu parliamentary constituency in the next general election.

In a statement late this evening, Kita national secretary Masrum Dayat said Zakaria was not qualified to speak on behalf of the party because he was not even a party member.

"He left the party in the middle of last year. He should not deceive the public by claiming that he is Kelantan Kita chairperson," said Masrum.
