The Stormwater Management And Road Tunnel (Smart) highway was reopened to traffic at 2am today after it was closed for four days to divert excessive river water following heavy rain in the Klang Valley.

It was closed at 8pm last Wednesday following a directive from the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to divert excessive water from the Klang and Ampang rivers swollen due to heavy rain, said a statement issued by Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir dan Terowong Sdn Bhd.

"This saved Kuala Lumpur city from a major flood," it said.

The company apologised for any inconvenience caused to motorists as a result of the closure of the highway.
