A public institution of higher learning student was found dead after falling from the 10th floor of the Desa Universiti apartments in Sungai Dua, Georgetown today.

A roommate found the body of the 23-year-old victim at 1.30pm, in the courtyard of the apartment.

Northeastern police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said the student had earlier sent a short messaging service to the roommate, with a request that all matters be resolved after his "absence".

He said the student's friend, who was in campus, then rushed home and found the victim dead at the ground floor of the apartment.

It is learnt that the final-year student, majoring in physics, had also apologised to his family members through Facebook before the incident.

The case was classified as sudden death.

The body was sent to the Penang Hospital.
