The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are always collaborating to monitor lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) activities in the country, particularly on the websites.

Jakim director-general Othman Mustapha said such collaboration was carried out through a committee comprising representatives of the department and the MCMC.

"We have officers who constantly monitor the websites that try to spread and support LGBT in the country.

"We also receive reports from members of the public.

"If we find that there are things that are unsuitable on the websites, information would be channeled to the committee for action to be taken," he said after the media conference on the third season of the reality programme 'Adik-adikku' in Kuala Lumpur today.

He was asked to comment on the report in a newspaper today on the rise in the number of groups indulging in gay and lesbian activities besides the existence of groups supporting the LGBT movement in the country through the website.

Meanwhile, Othman said Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Haminah Hamidun was scheduled to officially close the final programme of the third season of 'Adik-adikku' at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre on March 18.

He said five participants would compete in the final stage which would be aired live on TV1 at 9pm.
