PKR has admitted to making use of an election manual published by a foreign organisation, in preparing for the 2008 general election.

However, it denied Umno’s allegations that this was intended to conduct a 'hate campaign' or topple the government by undemocratic means.

nik nazmi nik ahmad book launch 210310 03 Communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (left) told Malay daily Sinar Harian that the manual, published by the National Democratic Institute for International Affair (NDI), only explains methods of preparing the machinery and candidates for an election campaign.

"The manual explains how to face a general election in a free and fair way. (Ours) was not a hate campaign,” he was quoted as saying.

“And if there is any attempt to topple the government, the people can (always choose) whether or not to support it.”

The Seri Setia assemblyperson advised Umno not to underestimate the people's capacity to judge political parties.

"Is it an offence for PKR to use a foreign manual which talks about free and fair elections?

"You can judge for yourself if you read the manual because, from beginning to the end, all of it is about how to face a general election.”

Selangor Umno's claims

Selangor Umno secretary Mohd Zin Mohamed had claimed that PKR received foreign support from the German-basd Konrad Adeneur Foundation (KAF), which he described as a Jewish-linked organisation, during the 2008 general election.

He alleged yesterday that KAF and NDI helped the opposition party prepare its manual leading up to the general election.

"This is the approach taken by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, with the help of foreign aid that is undemocratic, in order to compete with us,” Mohd Zin had claimed.

"They (PKR) used these methods to create hatred of (BN) leaders.”
