Bills, amendments or even motions which have not been fully discussed in the current session of Parliament can be brought forward to the next session if Parliament is dissolved.

Deputy speaker Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this following confusion among the public about how important matters including bills and amendments to acts could be settled in the current session.

Among them were the tabling of two new laws to replace the Internal Security Act (ISA) 1960, which were currently being formulated.

Another was the amendment to Section 15 of the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU) 1974 which would enable university students to be involved in politics.

“In this matter, the business of the House in the 12th term will be brought forward to the next session in the 13th term. There should not be any problem,” he told Bernama in Kuala Lumpur today.

The 13th general election was said to be getting nearer, based on political indications in the current situation such as announcements from leaders of the government and opposition and the analyses of political observers.

The focus of the Dewan Rakyat this time was the parliamentary select committee on improving the general election process which would table its last report on its suggestions in Parliament before being gazetted by the first week of April.
