An English teacher pleaded not guilty at the Selayang magistrate’s court in Kuala Lumpur today to a charge of distributing an obscene picture to a teenager, two years ago.

C Shanmuga, 32, was charged with distributing an obscene picture to an 18-year-old girl at Jalan GU 3/10, Taman Garing Utama, Rawang between April 21 and 27, 2010.

He was charged under Section 293 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum five-year jail or fine or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Mohd Isa Nor granted him bail of RM4,000 with one surety and fixed May 2 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor S Arunjothy prosecuted while Shanmuga was represented by counsel JRV Ramjahen and S Satheesan.
