Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairperson and Bintulu Member of Parliament Tiong King Sing is set to be the next deputy president of the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), which holds its triennial delegates conference (TDC) in Bintulu this weekend.

SPDP deputy secretary-general Paul Igai said Tiong, who is currently the party’s tresurer-general,was the only one nominated for the post when nominations for party’s elected posts closed on March 10.

“He is set to be our new deputy president. The senior vice-president post was also won uncontested,” he told Bernama when contacted.

Tiong will replace current deputy president Peter Nyarok who has decided not to defend the post.

Nyarok, who failed to retain his Krian state seat in the state election last year, is set to be made honorary life president.

However, Igai said the full list would only be made known this Saturday after the party’s supreme council held its final meeting before the TDC on Sunday.

Party president and state Social Development Minister William Mawan, has also retained his post, together with International Trade and Industries Deputy Minister Jacob Dungau Sagan, who also retained one of the two senior vice-president posts.

Apart from Mawan and Jacob, Youth chief Robert Ayu also retained his post after he was unopposed.

Meanwhile, Tiong when contacted refused to comment except to say: “Wait for Sunday.”
