Sixteen vehicles were damaged and a building’s glass panel broken in a riot at an electronics company in Kampung Jawa, Bayan Baru in Bayan Lepas today.

Penang South West District deputy police chief Deputy Supt Lai Fah Hin said in the  2.15pm incident, the suspects, comprising 15 local men armed with machetes and hammers, attacked the electronics company.

However, he said all workers at the company did not suffer any injuries as they were inside the building.

“The suspects wearing masks came in three vehicles bearing fake registration number plates and went on a rampage to break the glass panel in front the building, damaged workers’ vehicles as well as the manager’s car parked around the building.  

“An inspection at the site did not yield any sharp objects that were believed to be used by the suspects as the main weapons,” he told reporters.   

Lai said all the suspects managed to flee after the rampage.

He said police was investigating in detail the incident and had classified the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
