A grandmother has asked the state police to expedite their investigation into the incident in which a policeman allegedly caused her grandson to fall off a motorcycle and sustain injuries.

The man, who has been transferred to another division, was said to have allegedly hurled a crash helmet on the road at Jalan Teluk Bahang in George Town on March 4.

Zaleha Mohd, 56, said during a press conference that her family wanted to know the status of the case as it had already been two weeks since the incident.

Her grandson Mohd Afiq Rozaimi, 18, injured his knees and shoulder in the incident.

“The police had not even bothered to visit him, let alone make some compensation. I went to the Balik Pulau police station yesterday and they told me the case would be investigated for the prosecutor to take action. They told me to just wait.”

Meanwhile, Datuk Keramat assemblyperson Jagdeep Singh Deo, who was also at the press conference, said he sent a letter to Barat Daya police chief Supt Hatta Mohd Zin on March 14 to enquire on the status of the case.

“Police should expedite the investigations as the case will have an impact on the public. If the man was sent to another department pending investigations we hope the case would be dealt with quickly, to either bring him to court or clear him of the case,” he said.

In the incident, six of 15 youngsters who were riding their motorcycles fell off their machines after a policeman allegedly hurled his crash helmet on the road near SMK Teluk Bahang.

Following the incident more than 100 villagers stormed the Teluk Bahang police station expressing their outrage.
