The KTM Intercity service in the southern sector, suspended following a cargo train derailment between Layang-Layang and Renggam in Johor last Friday, is expected to resume operations tomorrow.

According to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM Berhad), repair works on the track had to be extended late into the night with additional repairs, including replacement of railway sleepers, for the safety of train passengers.      

The derailment affected several KTM Intercity train services, including Ekspres Rakyat (Woodlands-Kuala Lumpur Sentral) from Kluang Station to Kuala Lumpur Sentral, said KTM Berhad in a statement in Kuala Lumpur today.

Apart from that, the Ekspres Sinaran Selatan (Woodlands-Kuala Lumpur Sentral), Ekspres Sinaran Timur (Woodlands-Tumpat) and the Ekspres Senandung Timuran (Woodlands-Tumpat) will start from the Kluang Station.

Meanwhile, the two services cancelled following the incident were Ekspres Sinaran Selatan (Kuala Lumpur Sentral-Woodlands) and the Malayan Tiger Train (Tumpat-Johor Baru Sentral), while the Ekspres Senandung Timuran (Tumpat-Woodlands) will end in Kluang.

However, the KTM Intercity service which was allowed to operate will face disruption in its schedule, following repairs on the track in the area.

According to KTM Berhad, customers could obtain full refund for the fare of services cancelled or services which were rescheduled to another date.
