A former Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) enforcement assistant was sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM7,000 by the Sessions Court in Shah Alam today after he pleaded guilty to cheating a student into paying him RM1,000, six years ago.     

Judge M Bakri Abdul Majid also ordered Abdol Razak Dalip, 53, to serve six months’ jail in default of the fine.     

The father of eight was charged with cheating Mohd Aizuddin Azhar, 20, into handing over RM1,000 to him at the Syed Bistro restaurant in Plaza Alam Sentral in Shah Alam between 4.50 and 5.50pm on June 16, 2006.      

Abdol, who had worked with MBSA for nine years, faced a maximum of five years’ jail or fine or both under Section 415 of the Penal Code upon conviction.

 

According to the facts of the case, Abdol had approached Mohd Aizuddin and a woman who were seated at the Tasik Shah Alam park about 1.30pm on June 15, 2006.    

He told them that they had behaved inappropriately in public and were liable to a fine.     

After bargaining on an amount, Abdol told the couple that they had to pay him RM1,000 and the parties arranged to meet at the Syed Bistro restaurant the following day.      

They met as agreed but Abdol did not take the cash as he suspected he was being watched.     

He was arrested later the same day by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).    

MACC DPP Nik Haslinie Hashim prosecuted and Abdol was represented by lawyers Salim Bashir and Halim Ashgar.
