DRB-Hicom Bhd’s group managing director, Mohd Khamil Jamil, has been appointed as the new executive chairperson of Proton Holdings Bhd effective immediately.

He has been also appointed the national automaker’s executive director, Proton said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.

The appointment follows the completion of the acquisition of Proton by DRB-Hicom on March 16.

Khamil will replace Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh who resigned also on March 16.

The new Proton chairperson was appointed as the group managing director of DRB-Hicom in 2006 after serving the conglomerate as its deputy group chairperson and deputy group managing director from 2005.

Khamil also holds directorships in other companies, namely Pos Malaysia Bhd, Bank Mualamat Malaysia Bhd, Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd and Horsedale Development Bhd.

 

On January 16 this year, DRB-Hicom entered into a sales and purchase agreement with Khazanah Nasional Bhd to acquire 42.74 percent of the issued and paid up share capital of Proton for RM1.291 billion.
