Ipoh city will have a second district police headquarters soon to provide faster and more effective service to the public, Perak police chief Shukri Dahalan said today.
He said the Ipoh police face a heavy workload with the existing single district police headquarters managing the 24 police stations under its care.
A letter requesting the establishment of a new district police headquarters has been sent to Bukit Aman and a decision is expected to be announced on Sunday in conjunction with the 205th Police Day, he said.
"Having two district police headquarters will enable us to divide the management of the stations so as to provide fast and effective service for a safer city," he told reporters after the monthly assembly.
Shukri said the existing district police headquarters will be known as Ipoh Barat and the new one, Ipoh Timur.
He also said that Perak registered a total of 1,439 crime cases in the first two months of 2012, lower than the 1,668 cases in the corresponding period last year.
