Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah SeMalaysia (Berjasa) announced today it would contest between 40 and 50 parliamentary seats all over the country and several state seats, mainly in Kelantan and Kedah, in the next general election.

Hashim Karim, Berjasa’s executive director for the 13th general election, said the party is confident of winning at least 20 parliamentary seats.

He told a news conference that Berjasa championed Islam as a way of life and served as a link between the ruling and opposition parties to ease political tension.

Hashim said the party, which was established in 1978 with about 5,000 members, would focus on fence-sitters among the voters and welcomed them to join the party.

“Berjasa will also make full use of the social media such as Facebook and Twitter to endear itself to voters, particularly the young and professionals,” he said.
