Two Lembah Pantai PKR volunteers doing a survey of areas within the constituency were picked up by police yesterday afternoon on suspicion of impersonating Election Commission officers.

The volunteers were identified as Muhd Hanan Asyraf Rozani, 22, and Mohd Ridhwan Jahari, 23.

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar's political secretary Fahmi Fadzil said the two men were held at a mosque in Pantai Dalam and were immediately taken to the Jalan Pantai police station to have their statements recorded.

"They were interrogated for six hours and released after that," Fahmi said.

He believes a police report was lodged by Umno supporters who felt uneasy by their presence at the mosque.  

    

The PKR Lembah Pantai office has been conducting the survey over the weekend and Monday, involving 15 volunteers.

Letters of authorisation

Fahmi when contacted by Malaysiakini claimed that Umno members felt uneasy over the survey and the volunteers were “harassed” while they were carrying out their job on the first day.

Nurul Izzah also tweeted on the incident and immediately claimed they were harassed by Umno supporters.

“Prior to this there were no interruptions when the survey was conducted. Why such intimidation? Is there some hidden agenda?,” Nurul Izzah asked in her Tweet.
