Two coaches of a 26-coach cargo train transporting sugar went off the tracks between Renggam and Layang-Layang in Johor early this morning, resulting in several KTM southern sector Intercity services  to be disrupted.

The derailment occurred at Km693.75 at 3.40am while the cargo train was on its way from Prai to Tampoi.

On Friday (March 16), a cargo train also went off the rails in the same area, at Km692.25 between the same two stations, causing major disruption in KTM’s southern sector Intercity services.  

A KTM Bhd spokesperson, when contacted by Bernama, said the affected coaches were still being removed from the track and that restoration work was expected to be completed by 3am tomorrow.   

KTMB in a statement also said the affected KTM Intercity services following this latest derailment - Ekspres Senandung Sutera (Kuala Lumpur Sentral-Woodlands) and Ekspres Senandung Timuran (Tumpat-Woodlands) - would end their journeys at the Kluang railway station.

Passengers can continue their journeys to the last station at Woodlands by using buses provided by KTMB at Kluang station.

The Malayan Tiger Train (Tumpat-JB Sentral) and Shuttle Service (Gemas-Woodlands) will also end their journeys at Kluang station and passengers can use alternative transportation to continue their journey, the statement said.

The Ekspres Rakyat (Woodlands-Butterworth) will end at Kulai station and passengers can continue their journey to Butterworth with buses provided while the Shuttle service (Woodlands-Kuala Lipis) will start from Kluang station.

According to the statement, KTMB also said that Ekspres Sinaran Timur (Woodlands-Tumpat) has been cancelled.

KTMB said passengers could obtain refund of the full fare or change their journey to another date on the services affected.
