RPK reloaded: Running dog or watchdog?

your say Abasir: There is something fundamentally amiss with the premise that RPK (Raja Petra Kamarudin) may have privileged glimpses of some shenanigans in Pakatan Rakyat states which then is reason to take him on for the sake of truth. That cannot be true.

If it is even remotely possible that wrongdoing is happening, the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission), which has gone into high gear in these states, is more than likely to haul away suspects in the middle of the night, Teoh Beng Hock-like, with the state-run media baying for blood in unison.

RPK is doing what he has specialised in all these years: mix a potent cocktail of fact and fantasy to meet the thirst of political thrill-seekers (and make some money by the side).

Just as PM Najib Razak has overtly dismissed RPK's earlier allegation that Rosmah Mansor was at the Altantuya Shaariibuu kill site, sane Malaysians would do well to quietly ignore the intermittent barking of a stray dog.

Avatar1: At times, I wonder if anyone will write a book called ‘Anwar's Dilemma'. If he were to sit with controversial author Salman Rushdie, the Umno goons will say he sat with a traitor to Islam. And when he choose not to, they say he is not democratic.

As for RPK, given the situation and his biased view of Pakatan, if I were Anwar, I wouldn't want to sit on the same platform with the blogger.

Commander S Thayaparan should have made a more comprehensive analysis of Anwar on why he refused to the debate with RPK.

Fairnessforall: So far, all the accusations made by RPK against Pakatan have not been substantiated with evidence.

Even in the Selayang Market project, all the documents he showed were those which were dated during BN's time. So how to believe anything RPK says about Pakatan?

Even the sand deal, he did not have any real evidence. In contrast, when he used to expose BN, he had solid documentary evidence on every issue.

L Joy: As far as the Wikileaks session is concerned, we have only RPK's word that it is a forum, while DSAI's (Anwar's) version was that it was a Wikileak/DSAI interview session.

Why does Thayaparan believe RPK's version, and not even highlight DSAI's version? In any case, even assuming RPK is telling the truth, why should DSAI entertain RPK?

He lied when he said lawyers Derek Fernandez and R Sivarasa handled all MBPJ (Petaling Jaya City Council) cases and he has not apologised for that.

Quigonbond: I agree with Thayaparan's article on one point - it is better to engage RPK than to excommunicate him and accused him that of joining the dark side.

I note that RPK's attack is specifically on Selangor, and not necessarily against the MB Khalid Ibrahim. RPK has never attacked Perak, Penang or Kelantan. Whether it is by devious design (helping BN win back Selangor), or genuine, can only be discovered if PKR at least investigate his allegations as if he is just another whistleblower.

In that way, the whole of Pakatan will stand out to be vastly different (and superior) from BN, who meets allegations of corruption with stone walls, name calling or otherwise creating the foreign or otherwise religious/racial bogeyman out to destroy Malaysia.

As for Malaysians, we do need to consider the big picture - there may well be pockets of corruption in some Pakatan authorities, but there is no doubt that only their leaders can steer Malaysia away from the brink.

He is first and foremost selfish and very self-seeking. The word ‘we' does not exist in his vocabulary. It is ‘I', ‘I' and ‘I'. He also does not have an ounce of respect for others as he thinks only his views are right.

He likes to sensationalise things whilst others like Cynthia Gabriel of Suaram, S Ambiga of Bersih 2.0, Rafizi Ramli of PKR actually work hard behind the scenes. They go down to the ground and despite threats and personal hardships, they never flinch.

Just compare them to the loud, foul-mouthed and egoistical RPK sitting in his ivory tower, and one would get the answer about RPK.

Bystander: Yes, I do believe this dishonourable being has been bought since last year. To many of us, he has lost all credibility, period. He still think he could move mountains today with all his lies.

Multi Racial: I see RPK as watchdog, although I am still suspicious of his recent articles. How could one person be so close to Anwar before and is now against him in such a short period?

How is RPK going to support the opposition cause when he keep hitting their leaders at this critical hours? Is he getting personal with Anwar?

I am sure there are crooks within Pakatan but if we talk about crooks, we know there are more in BN. I know it is best we can get rid of all the crooks, but we have to be realistic here. We do not want to win the battle and lose the war.

If Pakatan does not win the next GE, it will get even harder. We should ask ourselves, what is the risk of putting Pakatan in federal government as against to BN?

Right now, I am in favour of Pakatan and I am also thankful and grateful of RPK contribution. I am giving him the benefit of doubt.

Tan Teng Wah: Basically, RPK is just an armchair critic. Over the years, he was known essentially as a whistleblower, exposing scandals, juicy news and "secret information" to the public.

Over and above that, he has no credential in any acceptable form, which could be considered as a service to the raykat. He did not stand for any election.

But RPK's ego has grown into such disproportionate size that he acts as if he is the sole 'authority in politics'. His view must always be right and it seems he is the most righteous one on earth.

He demands to be accepted and respected in all his endeavour. If we can ignore the once strongman Dr Mahathir Mohamad, what more RPK?

Ferdtan: RPK is definitely a running dog for whatever reasons. We have followed him for so many years through his writings that we can claim we know him better than he knows himself.

He cannot run away from his 'real' self (through all his writings in the past). They revealed his thoughts and feelings - good and bad. Basically, his whole personality comes out in public like an open book.

RPK now is not RPK then. Something changes him - greed? In history, many heroes often got seduced with money.

If he cannot see the bigger picture in helping Pakatan to win the GE, and thus ensure the birth of a two-party system, then he deserves no respect from us.

It is a pity for RPK to complain of such trivia of being rejected to speak at the same forum with Anwar. It's a childish tantrum to get cheap publicity.

To quote William Shakespeare, RPK has been "hoisted with his own petard".
