The 500,000th and millionth followers of Najib Abdul Razak's Twitter and Facebook will be invited for tea with the prime minister on a date to be announced later.

Najib said the meeting was a gesture of his thanks for the support of his social media in the last three years as prime minister.

Najib said in this period, the online social media had expanded to become an important platform for him to communicate with the people.

"I am amazed at the increase of the number of Malaysians who are following me on Twitter and Facebook each day, as such we would be reaching the 500,000th on Twitter and millionth member on Facebook .

"After my twitting tonight, I thought for a moment. I propose to meet my 500,000th Twitter follower and millionth Facebook follower," he said in his latest entry in the blog www.1Malaysia.com yesterday.

The prime minister said more details about the programme would be posted later.

On Wednesday, Najib in his tweet announced that the number of his followers in Twitter and Facebook had reached almost 500,000 and one million respectively.

"Admittedly, trying to connect with everyone isn't as easy when so many people are expecting replies from me, but I can hardly blame you," he said.

The prime minister also hoped his followers would stay connected with him and support his work for the country.
