Terengganu Umno deputy liaison chairperson Idris Jusoh was sworn in as the state's menteri besar today.

According to a Bernama report, he and 10 new state executive councillors took their oath of office before Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Maziah.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) won 28 of the 32 state seats in Terengganu in the general election to recapture the state from PAS, which ruled it for one term.

This time around, the opposition party only managed to secure four seats.

Idris, 47, who is also the state BN chairperson, won in Jertih.

New MB in Negeri Sembilan

Meanwhile, Rantau state assemblyperson Mohamad Hasan is expected to be sworn in as menteri besar for Negeri Sembilan at 2.30pm today.

He received his letter of appointment from the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Ja'afar yesterday.

Mohamad, 47, who is the seventh Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, replaces Mohamed Isa Abdul Samad, who led the state government for 22 years.

Other MBs

Yesterday, PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat was sworn in as Kelantan menteri besar after his party scrapped through to power.

Following a nail-biting recount on Monday, the party formed the state government by winning 24 state seats while BN captured the remaining 21.

PAS has controlled Kelantan with landslide victories since the 1990 general election. The outcome of Sunday's polls however dealt a blow to the Muslim based party.

Also sworn in yesterday was Melaka chief minister Mohd Ali Rustam while the menteri besar for Kedah and Selangor are expected to take their oaths this afternoon and tomorrow respectively.
