A group of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) supporters staged a brief protest outside the Kuala Lumpur Election Commission (EC) office today.

The 40-odd supporters carried banners and placards claiming that the recent general election was 'illegitimate' and that it was tainted by the presence of 'phantom voters'.

The protest, which lasted for about 30 minutes, was led by Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua. Some 20-odd police personnel were present but no untoward incidents were reported.

When met, Tian Chua complained that there were voters who could not cast their ballots on Sunday because their names were missing from the EC's lists.

He also added that there were discrepancies on the dates the lists were gazetted, some on March 3 and others a day before polling.

Compiling evidence

The Keadilan leader said the party was in the process of investigating and compiling evidences to substantiate their claims.

Tian Chua also called for a Royal Commission to be formed in order to probe these allegations and irregularities.

He said they would continue to pressure the EC through various means but did not elaborate.

Also present this morning was another vice-president R Sivarasa.

Keadilan's ally PAS has also cried foul over the general election, which left both parties in tatters.

In the last election, Keadilan won five parliamentary seats which was reduced to one this time around while PAS managed to retain only seven of the 26 seats it controlled after 1999.

PAS also lost its grip on Terengganu while it managed to scrap through in its traditional stronghold of Kelantan by a three seat majority.
