Tajudin's RM589mil Danaharta debt written off

your say Anonymous_3ff5: Tajudin Ramli (originally from Naluri) came to MAS (Malaysia Airlines) with RM1.8 billion to be its executive chairman. He then ordered 10 B-747 and 15 B-777 to replace MAS' ageing aircrafts.

He also introduced MAS to a virtual carrier concept by selling a number of MAS properties and assets. He moved MASKargo operations to Frankfurt. Five years later, he left taking with him his RM1.8 billion and leaving behind an almost insolvent company.

Now his debt of RM589 million has been written off just like that. I hope it's not true. However, if it is true, then Tajudin must be the luckiest businessman on earth.

But for MAS, our national carrier and once the pride of Malaysians, it will never be the same again.

VChange: The NFC (National Feedlot Corporation) debacle is just peanuts compared with Tajudin's huge debt to Darnaharta as well as the money he has pilfered during the years of TDM's (Dr Mahathir Mohamad's) premiership.

This shows the level of high tolerance for corrupt practises that the BN government is allowing. No wonder we are just 2 percent away from the 55 percent allowed in our national debt.

Swipenter: Where is the (social) justice in all of these robbing, stealing, plundering and raping of the country's wealth?

We worry about the rising cost of living everyday and wonder whether our income/savings can sustain us over the long run and here we have a RM589 million debt written off just for one of the many Umno's cronies to buy his silence from exposing dirt of privatisation starting from Mahathir's administration.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg as many believe. Imagine how much money is lost this way over the years - it must be in the billions.

Jedi_Who: It's already difficult for a common man to make a living. Their savings will last only a couple of years after they retire, and they must continue to work indefinitely.

But our elected representatives rob us blind each day with fortunes that could sustain us for a thousand lifetimes. That's a sin.

If these monies were fairly distributed, there would not be so much crime and poverty.

Anonymous: Pakatan Rakyat, we'll give you the two-thirds majority mandate to re-write the constitution so that laws could be passed to try and hang these thieves.

Confiscation of ill-gotten monies and properties should be allowed too. Enough of these nonsense! This is treason and the crimes should be punishable by death.

If death is too easy a way out, then let's go by hudud law - hands lopped off and nothing but their shirt on their back.

All those who are involved directly and indirectly in making this decision should be held accountable and be severely punished. These people must never be let off scot-free. Justice must be served.

Anonymous: I wish I, too, get a huge loan, perhaps to the tune of RM589 million, and then get that debt written off later.

Ferdtan: Let's see how much is RM589 million? We can build 11,780 low-cost houses costing RM50,000 for the poor. Based on a family of five, the government can help 60,000 Malaysians to have a roof under their head.

This is totally an abuse of power by the government to help one person, their crony. If the people still want to keep on voting for such a corrupted government - God, please have mercy on them, for they know not what they are doing.

The sheer stupidity on the part of the BN government is beyond words.

Cala: If RM 589 million of Danaharta debt owed by Tajudin could be written off due to the generosity of the government-linked companies (GLCs) concerned, the presence of old guards in decision-making is evident.

After all, Tajudin was/is one of the blue-eyed boys of the Mahathir era, where "statist capitalism" was at its best (see Jomo, 1986, pp. 268-271).

Under this arrangement, only certain Umno politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen were groomed to be "successful" in their chosen endeavour. Looking from this perspective, this particular episode is hardly a surprise.

Ksn: This cannot be true, it should not be true, it is too preposterous to be true!

Tajudin was one of the successful towkays of the NEP, the Umno Malay kind, and one of the many creations of the RM100 billion man, all at the expense of the taxpayers, public funds and the country - no effort, no imagination, no risk, free money.

Is there no law against such blatant abuses? What if there are, who cares.
