Immediately after being sworn in as Terengganu Menteri Besar, Idris Jusoh has started to dismantle the remnants of the PAS government.

His first move was to abolish the People's Consultative Committee (JSR) introduced by the opposition party during its four-year reign.

Idris said the committee was abolished as the Village Security and Development Department (JKKK), which had been in existence for a long time, was more effective.

"The JSR did not function well during PAS's rule because most of its duties were still carried out by the JKKK," he was quoted as saying in a Bernama report.

The menteri besar was speaking to reporters after the swearing in ceremony at Istana Maziah in Kuala Terengganu this morning.

When PAS captured the state in the 1999 general election, it did not recognise the JKKK and had set up the JSR instead, which had a similar role. There are more than 400 JSR members.

Contract termination

Idris said he had asked state secretary Ku Abdul Azah Syed Alwee to issue a directive on the abolition of the JSR.

He had also asked the state secretary to identify the contract posts created by PAS as they were no longer suitable.

Those identified had their contracts terminated while more terminations would follow.

The menteri besar said their contracts had to be terminated because they had clearly sided with the PAS government and would ruin Barisan Nasional's (BN) agenda and planning if not stopped.

On state government officers and staff who had outwardly supported PAS, he said a special committee would be set up to study the matter and decide on their status.

However, he stressed that the BN government will not indiscriminately dismiss any officers and would only do so if they were found to have undermined the state government's administration and planning.
