Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai today reiterated the government's stand that Lynas Corporation will not be allowed to operate its controversial rare earth plant here, if it is found to endanger public health.

NONE He said the government stand on this issue is clear.

"The prime minister had mentioned before, if it is not safe and harmful to the health of the people, we won't give them the licence. That is our stand.

"If it is harmful to the health of the people, then it will not be allowed to operate in the country," he told reporters after attending an event to commemorate the World TB Day 2012, held, here.

Let PSC decide

As such, Liow added that the parliamentary select committee (PSC) on the controversial plant in Gebeng, Pahang, should be allowed to carry out its work.

"I think let the PSC decides. We will definitely let the public give their views to the PSC and they will take it from there," he added.

Last week, Dewan Rakyat has approved the setting up of a nine-member PSC, headed by Higher Education Minister Khaled Nordin.

Four other members will be from BN, three from the opposition and one Independent.

However, MPs from the opposition had refused to join the PSC.
