While opposition leader Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor failed to show up at Istana Negara to submit a memorandum on election irregularities, malaysiakini journalists at the scene ended up witnessing a three car pile-up instead.

The accident occurred when police outriders instructed motorists to give way to a royal motorcade.

In the 2pm incident, a Perodua Kancil came to a screeching halt upon being stopped by the police but three cars behind it - a Proton Iswara, Proton Wira and Honda Civic - failed to brake in time and collided into each other.

One of the drivers, Leong Chee Khong expressed disappointment with the apathy shown by the police personnel.

"Out of a sudden they stopped us. The first car managed to stop but we couldn't. This is their fault.

"They (the police) don't even bother to come and see what happened," thundered the furious sales manager.

No injuries

None of the drivers sustained any injuries in the mishap while the commotion also drew the attention of some 50 tourists in the area. It is not known if the King was in the royal vehicle.

Earlier, malaysiakini was informed that the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) Youth chief will submit the memorandum to palace officials but this was called off.

In a related incident, Bernama reported that a police outrider was seriously injured after he was knocked down by a lorry this morning as he was escorting the Perak Sultan to Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

Lans Koperal Abdul Majid Hashim, 46, had stopped his motorcycle to alert other motorists of the Sultan's motorcade when the lorry, which came from a slip road, failed to stop and crashed into him

He suffered severe body and head injuries and was rushed to Ipoh Hospital. The lorry driver has been detained to facilitate investigations.
