Five men pleaded not guilty at the magistrate’s court today to putting up posters insulting Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and former Bar Council president S Ambiga.

Anti guan eng - ambiga posters in Taman Tun Dr Ismail Muhammad Nizam Ali, 24, Hamzah Mahmood, 32, Mohd Norizam Che Othman, 31, Shahir Saarani, 30, and Mohd Jamil Jamaluddin, 36, and five others still at large were charged with putting up the posters of Guan Eng and Ambiga with captions such as ‘Lim Guan Eng Racist’, ‘Lim Guan Eng Anti-Malay’, ‘Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans’ and ‘Vote Ambiga Vote for Free Sex’, at public places.   

Muhammad Nizam, Hamzah, both unemployed; mechanics Mohd Norizam and Shahir, and Mohd Jamil, a trader, allegedly committed the offence at Jalan Wan Kadir, Taman Tun Dr Ismail about 3.40 am on Feb 4.    

They face a maximum of one year in jail or fine not exceeding RM1,000 or both under Section 15(2)(a) of the Minor Offences Act 1955, upon conviction.

Magistrate Zulkpli Abdullah allowed a bail of RM1,000 with one surety each and fixed May 7 for remention.

DPP Haderiah Siri prosecuted and all the accused were represented by Rezal Mazli Abdul Muin.
