Federal Territories MCA Youth has hit out at Pakatan Rakyat over their alleged indifference over the hostile reception suffered by its national leader Wee Ka Siong at the Chinese education rally, held at the New Era College in Kajang on Sunday.

In a statement today, FT MCA Youth chief Senator Chew Lian Keng said numerous Pakatan leaders present at the rally appeared nonchalant towards the “ violent and loutish behaviour” of some of the rally participants.

NONE “By keeping silent on the loutish behaviour of the demonstrators, is this evidence that they condone the rowdiness or the participants were behaving likewise following Pakatan’s instructions?

“If not, Pakatan should not hesitate to come out and criticise the heckling and harassment which violated the main goal of organising the assembly,” said Chew.

Chew argued that the hostilities towards Wee had undermined the true purpose of the rally, which Pakatan could have helped avert.

Habit of diverting attention

Instead, alleged Chew, Pakatan - particularly the DAP - are trying to divert attention and refusing to admit their “wrongdoing”.

To bolster his argument about DAP’s purported habit of diverting attention, Chew used MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s debate as an example.

He said Lim not only failed to answer several questions from the floor, he also raised other issues after the debate to divert attention for his shortcomings during the debate.

“On the 325 rally against the shortage of Chinese-educated teachers for Chinese schools, from the beginning to the end, the main concern of DAP was the propaganda value derived from the gathering.

“DAP did not offer any constructive arguments on the subject. When the behaviour of some participants at the rally showed violent tendencies, DAP immediately distanced themselves, saying that the protestors were not Pakatan Rakyat members,” he said.

NONE Meanwhile, national DAP organising secretary Teresa Kok ( right ) urged all MCA leaders to reflect on why the rally participants reacted the way they did, instead of blaming Pakatan.

Kok said that the Chinese community was frustrated because of decades of federal government neglect to this issue.

 

“Could this not be the reason why the Chinese community and Chinese educationists are so angry with those above?

“Furthermore, the anger of these communities are only going to be aggravated now that MCA is diverting the real issue of education woes by blaming Pakatan leaders for the embarrassment the government faced yesterday,” said Kok.

Kok urged MCA leaders to instead apologise for their shortcomings to the Chinese community.
