Opposition MP Tony Pua lambasted the government’s intention to kick off the 1Care for 1Malaysia roadshow on Saturday, calling it an “insincere” move.

NONE Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) ( left )  alleged that he received notification from a doctor stating that the Health Ministry is embarking on the roadshow in four days at the Health Management Institute in Bangsar.

“I feel very little notice was given for the roadshow... and if it is only advertised in the newspapers tomorrow the public will only have three days,” he said.

He pointed out that the public and industry stakeholders have strongly opposed the controversial revamp of the country’s healthcare system.

“This is an insincere act by the ministry because if they are serious in obtaining public feedback, they would have given a longer notice period.

“I also understand that there are limited seats, not more than 100, in the institution and early registration is required,” said Pua at a press conference in Parliament.

However, he added that all those interested on attending the briefing need to sign up with the ministry at daftarforum@moh. gov.my .

According to Pua, the forum is being hosted to gather feedback on improving the country’s healthcare system.

The 1Care scheme is to replace the current two-tier healthcare system with one that integrates both private and government medical institutions, in hopes of “ensuring healthcare is accessible to all Malaysians” across the socioeconomic strata.

The 1Care scheme, which will require mandatory participation when mooted, will be managed by a National Healthcare Financing Authority (NHFA) and includes an insurance-like funding system.
