Several roads in the capital were inundated following a heavy downpour since early today, causing massive traffic congestion during the morning rush hour.
A bumper-to-bumper traffic snarl occurred along the Federal Highway, the Middle Ring Road 2, the Sungai Besi Highway and the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway.
The traffic jam was also contributed by the closure Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (Smart) at 7am to drain out floodwaters from Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Jelatek, Keramat, said a Smart spokesperson.
A Kuala Lumpur traffic police spokesperson said traffic congestion occurred along almost all roads leading to the capital but the situation was under control.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said heavy rain in the capital and several areas in Selangor, Johor and Malacca were expected to continue until noon today and it could trigger strong winds and flash floods.
