The Election Commission (EC) today thanked the parliamentary select committee (PSC) and other parties involved in providing input to improve the general election process.
EC secretary Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria in a statement in Kuala Lumpur said the suggestions would be studied to identify those which could be implemented in the short and long run.
Yesterday, the PSC’s final report on electoral reforms was tabled and debated by chairperson Dr Maximus Ongkili in the Dewan Rakyat.
The 79-page report contains 22 suggestions obtained from the public hearing sessions, feedback from committee members, summarisation of results of scrutiny by the sub-committees and observations when on working visits abroad.
Maximus, who is also Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, said 18 suggestions were agreed to by the PSC, with its membership of nine government and opposition members of parliament, while four were agreed to via split votes.
